Green Shield Canada’s Emergency Response Funding

In response to the challenges of COVID-19, Green Shield Canada announced in April 2020, their commitment of $500,000 in Emergency Response Funding to communities impacted by the pandemic, all across Canada.

The Algoma Community Foundation, in partnership with SooToday, Village Media and the Sault Area Hospital Foundation, put together “Come Together SSM” an online fundraiser of music, performance and storytelling that raised money for local organizations working on the front lines. Green Shield Canada generously contributed $10,000 to the Algoma Community Foundation, who raised an additional $5,000 during the event. In total, $15,000 was equally distributed to: Shingwauk Anishinaabe Students Association, Algoma University’s Student Emergency Fund, Sault College International, Sault Community Information and Career Centre: Newcomer Settlement Program, Phoenix Rising non-profit homes inc., St. Vincents, Pauline’s Place non-profit homes inc., the Sault Ste. Marie Indian Friendship Centre, Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre’s Rural-Agri Innovation Network (RAIN) and the John Howard Society.

This was the ACF’s first experience in granting within Algoma and we want to send our deepest gratitude to Green Shield Canada and all those involved with the event.

We look forward to our continued partnership with Green Shield Canada and their Six 4 Six community granting initiative as we move into the fall season. Stay tuned for more granting announcements soon!
